The short answer
Under Airbnb’s single-fee structure most hosts pay 15.5% of each booking; under its split-fee structure most hosts pay 3% and guests pay a further 14.1% to 16.5%. Vrbo’s pay-per-booking model charges hosts a 5% commission plus a 3% payment processing fee. A booking taken on your own website carries card processing only.

How much does Airbnb charge hosts?
Airbnb has two fee structures. Under the split-fee structure most hosts pay 3% and guests pay a separate service fee of 14.1% to 16.5% of the booking subtotal. Under the single-fee structure the whole fee comes out of the host's payout: Airbnb says most hosts pay 15.5% and the rest typically pay 14% to 16%. Who has to use Airbnb's single-fee structure?
According to Airbnb, the single fee is mandatory for traditional hospitality listings such as hotels and serviced apartments, for hosts who use property management software, and for hosts in countries subject to that structure.
What is the Airbnb host fee calculated on?
Airbnb says host fees are a percentage of the nightly price plus any fees the host charges, such as cleaning, and exclude the guest service fee and taxes.
How much does Vrbo charge owners?
On Vrbo's pay-per-booking model hosts pay a 5% commission on the rental amount and any additional fees charged to the traveller, plus a 3% payment processing fee on the total payment including taxes and refundable deposits. What does a direct booking cost instead?
Card processing, which is typically around 3%, plus whatever you pay for your booking software and website. There is no marketplace commission on a booking taken through your own site.
Should I raise my Airbnb prices to cover the single fee?
Some hosts do, since guests no longer see a separate service fee on those listings. It also means your direct price can be lower than your Airbnb price while you still earn more per night, which is a simple, honest reason for guests to book direct.
